Day trip from Edinburgh

Interested in a day trip from Edinburgh to The Trossachs to see the scenery (loch, rolling hills/mountains, etc...). Any suggestions on locations in the Trossachs to visit on the day trip? Are there any limitations (things closed/shortened hours) since we will be in Edinburgh in October. We had not been planning on renting a car; however, have been advised to do so to make the day trip easier. Any suggestions on the easiest, most efficient way to rent a car?

We will be arriving in Edinburgh the evening of Saturday October 5th (flying in from Atlanta through Heathrow). We'll have Sunday October 6th through Wednesday October 9th, flying back to London on Thursday October 10th.

We planned on spending two days exploring Edinburgh, one day for a road trip to Fife/St. Andrew and another day for a road trip to the Trossachs. Any suggestions on the order we should do things, especially with having to rent a car in mind.

You might enjoy a trip on a steamship on Loch Katrine

It's a particularly pretty loch I think

Can you park near your hotel? If so rent for 2 days and do the Trossachs on one and St Andrews on the other.

I'd think about going back to the airport to rent your car. You don't need to drive through town if you do that.

Rather than the hassle of renting a car why don't you consider a coach tour instead?

There are small group tours (16 to 19 passengers) to both St Andrews and Fife as well as Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. You'll find it far more relaxing to let someone else do the driving and you'll get to learn more about the places that you are seeing.

Check out www.edinburghtours.com for some ideas.

Happy travelling!!
