Braemar Highland Games

We will be attending the Braemar Highland Games and wonder if there is a bus or train from Pitlochry to Braemar on game day. I understand that finding a parking place for the games is difficult.

Any hints would be appreciated!

Bonnie

As far as I know there is no direct bus from Pitlochry to Braemar and there is definitely no train.

There is no difficulty about finding a parking space for the games. On arrival you will de directed to the fields where those attending the games may park their cars. However the walk from there to the Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park where the games are held will take between 20-30 minutes. There is a shuttle bus available.

Braemar is a pretty highland village with the A93 road running through it and when the annual gathering is held, it gets very busy which causes delays. Just take your time and enjoy the day.

PS............

I just checked the Braemar Gathering website and see why you have the idea that parking is difficult. It is limited if you wish to pay for it, otherwise as I say there should be ample free parking available but this does involve a walk. Basically you walk from one side of the village to another.

Also if you have seats booked you might want to take a cushion and of course suitable wet weather clothing and footwear. No one knows what the weather will be like on the day, so be prepared for anything.

Good information, Sownack

It sounds like there should be no problem with parking, then. We're planning to stay in Pitlochry for the night, so slow going will just give us more time to see the sights.

Thank you!

You are welcome. It's a lovely drive from Pitlochry, especially in the area of Glenshee when you will no doubt feel your ears "pop" because the A93 is the highest public road in the UK. Do book your accommodation as soon as you can, because the Braemar Gathering is a very popular event and people travel from miles around to attend.
