Rail & Sail ScotRail tix - discount on train/ferry travel?

Hi Travelers

Just a quick question for any of those who have made use of ScotRail's Rail & Sail Ticket deals for reaching Arran. Is there any advantage in pre-booking these tickets online or would it be easier to just do this at a Station when in Scotland to suit requirements for the day of travel?

I am mainly interested if these tickets to be booked with a different train station at each end of the trip e.g. Glasgow --> Ardrossan --> Brodick --> Ardrossan --> Somewhere else?

I am gathering pre-booked ferry tickets are not really required for travel without a car and the service is pretty much "walk on" at arrival?

Thank you :)

The route is commuter so no advantage or cost saving to be had by booking in advance which is better in case your plans change.

Just by the ticket at Glasgow Centrals ticket office on the day.

Unless you were taking a car over on the Ferry then again not needed if on foot.

That's correct but thought I would advise you there is no ticket station at Ardrossan harbour station. You need to purchase tickets from the ticket collector on the train. Of course, you can buy return tickets from Glasgow, alternatively, unless you have a return ticket, you can buy a sail and train ticket straight through to Glasgow central station from the ferry terminal in Brodick on the day of travel.

Foot passengers do not need to pre book in advance.

Excellent, we will suss this out at one of the bigger stations prior to arrival. I am amazed at how organised Scottish transportation services appear to be - absolutely incredible! :)

Glasgow has the biggest suburban rail network in the UK outwith London so places like Ardrossan have an hourly service all day.

Only the Far North and Highlands have spartan services of 2/3 trains a day.
