Glasgow to Skye in July

We have all of our trip to Scotland planned, except for 2 days. We will leave Glasgow on day 1, heading to the West Highlands. We were hoping to get to Skye, but it looks like we may not be able to find a B&B (have vouchers...:( ) Since it is such a long drive to Skye, I am looking for other options for 2 days. The 3rd day, we will be heading back to Edinburgh, flying out on day 4. If we can't get to Skye, then we want something less than 5 hours from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. HELP! We like scenery, history, but no serious hiking, etc. THANKS in advance!

If your heading to the west highlands, your kind of stuck because of the geography of the place, you can either go to Mallaig and get a ferry to skye, or you don,t go as far west and continue up the A82 going thro Fort Augstus, and travel along Loch Ness, where there should be plenty of b+b's. I can reccomend The Lovat Hotel at Fort augustus. The A82 is a fantastic scenic road with plenty of opportunities to stop and go hill walking if so desired. The only draw back is you would need to come back the way you went, as going up to inverness and cutting across thro elgin then to aberdeen and down to edinburgh would take far to long.

Thanks, Dougie. Unfortunately we made the mistake of buying "Go as you please" tour, and are limited to B&Bs in their voucher plans. It has been an incredible hassle and has limited us so much! The ferry to Skye in Mallaig might work. How far is Mallaig from Glasgow? Glasgow is a given, since we are meeting friends there, so we will be leaving from there. And flying out of Edinburgh, another we cannot change. We should have planned our itinerary before we had them book flights.

Any ideas of other places to see unstead of Skye that are closer to Glasgow and Edinburgh.?

Wouldn't it be simpler to tell us which B&Bs you are limited to and let someone suggest which is the best for you, given your requirements? (Just like a good travel agent might....).

Are you sure you won't find a B&B on Skye?

What B&B options do you have on Mull? It is a good option and tends to feel a bit less over-run by tourists. Everyone seems to head to Skye when they come to Scotland, but all the islands have something special about them.

Mull has prettier villages, better sandy beaches and (in my opinion) more interesting castles than you find on Skye.

If you are going to any of the islands such as Skye, Mull, Arran then you really have to stay 2 nights to make it worthwhile. You will also find that most island B&Bs will decline one night stays.
