Short-time jobs?

I'm a finn coming to Inverness in June. Is there any short-time jobs for a tourist there? Anything goes.

Probably, depending on your skills and experience, but for most places you will need to have a UK National Insurance number before they will take you on. You can get this through the Jobcentre (government employment network) but it may take a little time.

The bars and hotels in Inverness are always looking for staff. If you have an up to date CV send it to some of the agencies - I worked with Global Highland for a couple of years and I'd highly recommend them.

You can search for local jobs online here:

Feel free to PM me if you need any more info.

Try looking around the hostels in Inverness, it's the norm to get jobs cleaning for your accommodation in hostels. Usually you have to have stayed for a day or two so the manager knows you’re not a serial killer. :) It's a case of turning up and seeing if there is anything available.

Also if you don't have a national insurance card try Jimmy Chungs buffet restaurant , apparently they don't require one.

Good luck K

You don't have to have a NI number in order to work - all you have to have is proof that you are legally allowed to work in the UK.

And a passport from an EU / EEA country is that proof

The biggest problem is that you'll be massively overtaxed whilst working in the UK as you won't get your tax code sorted before you finish work.

The overtax can be reclaimed from HMRC but there may be an agreement between the UK & Finland on taxation which could affect what you are entitled to

This link might help explain and also has other links to Jobcentre Plus and the Inland Revenue.
