Greenock/Glasgow cruise port

On our cruise in August, we will dock for two days in Glasgow. We prefer to tour on our own (hop-on-hop-off bus), but wonder how one gets from the port in Greenock into Glasgow. If we do the bus tour one day, any suggestions for Day 2?

We arrive on a Princess ship in mid May....can we walk to any local sites and have a relaxing day? and what do you think we should do....we have been to several of the sites in Glasgow and Stirling, and the Wheel..

Open to your thoughts

If the cruise company is offering a tour at reasonable cost to Loch Lomond and Inveraray that would be worth considering.

If you don't want to go far you could take a bus or train just along the coast to Gourock. There is a ferry across to Dunoon which is worth a short visit on a nice day.

Another suggestion. You dock in Greenock itself which is not exactly a tourist destination.

It's about 2 miles from Greenock to Gourock and there is an esplanade between them which is quite pleasant.

Have a look at a map.You could have leisurely walk along to Gourock ferry pier and then decide if you want to visit Dunoon.

>>> The itinerary says that we leave at 2am on the "second day". <<<

You know what I think is going on here. It's effectively a one-day stop with a late night departure so people have time to get back from the Edinburgh Tattoo. Given as it's August.

Yes that's exactly what it is. We took the train into Glasgow and spent the day with family. We were back at the ship around midnight .

Laura there really is only one full day. The ship sails at 2am. If this is your first visit, an organized tour would make better use of your time.
