Central Glasgow Hotel Suggestions?

I will be traveling to Glasgow for pleasure the last week of August and was looking for some hotel suggestions. Most likely, I will be traveling via train from Edinburgh and would like to stay somewhere that is centrally located and is easy walking distance to most locations. Any suggestions or places of interest? Thanks.

Tom

Depends on your budget really - there are loads of centrally-located hotels. If you're travelling from Edinburgh, you'll most likely be coming in to Glasgow Queen St station, right on the edge of George Square - next to Millennium Hotel, which gets good reviews. But you're also within a reasonable walk/short taxi journey from the Marriott, Holiday Inn, Jury's Inn, Langs, Hilton, Malmaison, Premier Travel Inn....the list is endless. The Millennium is a good one as it's right next to the train station, underground station, bus stops, tour bus stops, taxi rank, shopping, bars, restaurants etc. But really, any hotel in the city centre isn't a million miles away from most places of interest.

I would suggest basing yourself in the city centre and popping through to the West End at some point - you're spoilt for choice with Kelvingrove Park and Art Gallery, Glasgow University, Byres Road (lots of fantastic wee shops, bars and restaurants), Botanic Gardens....I could go on..

I would also recommend The Barras - Glasgow's famous market - for an afternoon.

Look at http://www.seeglasgow.com/

and http://www.list.co.uk/ for events/gigs/restaurants etc

Hi Tom

Agree with Clara, depends on your budget but the Millennium is a good central choice being right on George Sq and literally on the doorstep of Queen st. Also close by is the Carlton George about 1 min from the station, which also gets good reviews. A cheaper option but still walking distance from the station (just about !) would be the Premier Travellin Inn about 2 blocks from George Sq. Any further than that and you'd probably be better getting a cab.

The Radisson SAS is the top rated hotel in Glasgow, its nearer Glasgow Central, the other main railway station. Not quite such a nice area as around Queen st, but still in a good central location.

The Hitlon and the Marriott are a little further out and not as easily accessible on foot.

If you narrow your choices down, please let us know and we can give more detailed info on them.
