Good place to eat on a Monday night, please help ?

Hi

I'm going to St Andrews for a few days and its my wife's birthday on the Monday. I have just realised that most the 'up market' places are closed on a Sun/Mon night

Can anyone suggest somewhere to enjoy a good meal, worthy of a birthday & a bit of spoiling ?

We like all types of food

Thanks

This place is open on a Sunday night. Haven't been for years so can't say whether its still good or not.

We love this Thai restaurant but whether its special enough to match the occassion is a matter of opinion although I chose it for my 60th birthday celebration with the family and we had a wonderful meal - the service is excellent. Open 7 days.

You could always choose somewhere like The Old Course Hotel or The Fairmont - being hotels they will always be open but I would agree that perhaps the dining rooms can be a bit large and not exactly intimate!

What about Rufflets? its a beautiful setting and could just be special enough?

Good luck

I feel a bit odd, an American giving advice to a Scot, but I'll do my best. My recommendations are based on two visits to St Andrews, in 2011 and 2012. I had dinner at the Seafood Restaurant in May 2011, and we loved it. The food was very good, and the setting is amazing. Like many fine-dining places, the portions aren't huge, and the prices are relatively high, but might be just perfect for a special meal. Our other favourite was the Russell Hotel, at the corner of The Scores and Murray Park.

As Woody suggests about Nahm Jim, this may not be as "special" as you were hoping for, but we ate 3 or 4 meals there over the two visits, and enjoyed it every time.

There is also the Rusacks Hotel - the restaurant gets reasonable reviews. Better location than the Fairmont which is a bit out of the town. There are two restaurants at the Old Course Hotel but only the Sands is open on a Monday - this is not the special restaurant of the two, the Grill on the 4th floor is a better location but may not be open the date you need. It opens on a Sunday from April but not Mondays.
