Forth Bridge Visitor Centre

Reports on the BBC website today say a visitor centre is planned for the Forth Bridge, including a viewing platform at the top of the bridge to give visitors a "close-up" look. There may also be guided walks to the top of one of the towers.

I've checked my calendar - it isn't April 1st, so this is presumably for real. If so, it might interest locals as much as visitors.

Can't wait. Dreamed of going up to the top of the bridge since I was a boy :)

It's the in thing these days - the Sage Gateshead started doing them a few months ago and they had to offer additional sessions.

Same for Penshaw Monument

Hope this happens. I would love to go to the top. In my humble opinion the Forth Rail Bridge is the nicest looking bridge in the world.

I'm sure it will happen, but not tomorrow. The plan is for the centre to be at North Queensferry. And much as I hate the word iconic, the bridge is. The most recognisable postcard of Scoltand would be the Forth Bridge. Or Nessie wearing a Tam o'Shanter.

Yes, must admit that I had always thought there was a missed opportunity here and agree that there are very few "iconic" bridges in the world other than Sydney Harbour and Forth. Having done the Sydney bridge climb, I can vouch for the sensational opportunity for views from the top. However, I suspect that due to the rather different weather conditions in Australia/Scotland, there are likely to be fewer days throughout the year when the climb would be doable.
