Restaurants? Pubs?

Can you someone tell me of some excellent restaurants/pubs in Edinburgh that have good food but don't cost $40 per person? Thanks!

Assuming you mean US$, that's only about £23 per person - not an enormous sum for expensive places like Edinburgh.

My favourites are Elephants & Bagels for a quick snack on the run.

Hendersons veggie cafe is good value. Opposite it is Urban Angel, also offers excellent food.

Thank you, Panda 229---what area of Edinburgh are these establishments located? Also, can you please let me know your favorite "pricey" restaurants? Thanks for your help! Pamela

My most favourite restaurant is David Bann, just off the eastern end of Cowgate. It's entirely veggie, but the food is sublime and I defy anyone to have a good meal there.

I'm yet to eat at the Witchery, (top of the Royal Mile) but everyone tells me it's utterly fantastic.

Henderson's is on Hanover, which runs off Princes St. They have a shop and salad bar, but the bistro entrance is tucked around the corner in Thistle St.

Urban Angel is also on Hanover, practically opposite Henderson's.

Elephants & Bagels is just off Nicolson St

Edinburgh is a beautifully compact city, a good comfy pair of shoes and you can walk everywhere

There are a group of restaurants called Howies which offer set price menus and BYO wine which will definitely be less than $40 - fantastic food! www.howies.uk.com - my favourite is the one at Waterloo Place but all are great. Room In The Town/West End are the same type of thing.

If you like vegetarian Indian Kalpna is great.(nicolson street) For lunch there is an all you can eat buffet for less than £5 and the food is good and fresh. In the evening they do buffets too but only on some nights. Try the 5pm website when you azre in Edinburgh www.5pm.co.uk it is a last minute booking agency. You often get really good deals when the town is quiet. If you want to eat cheaply eat a big lunch and then a snack in the evening
