Evenings in Edinburgh

We have all the major tourist sites in our trip plan - mostly between 9 and 4 each day (3 days/4 nights)

Any suggestions of things to do early evening, before dinner please?

Not too keen on sitting in a bar (!).......Perhaps one or two wee ones.....!!

Depends when you are going. If in summer, this would be a good time to get out for a walk - Arthur's Seat, Portobello beach etc. If in winter, maybe that's a good time to see art galleries and museums (check their websites for closing times). On any holiday, surely late afternoon is the perfect tea, cake and nap time?

What time of year? In the summer you could do something like Arthur’s seat or walk round the meadows or along the water of Leith but if it’s winter I’d stick to attractions til closing time, shops or the Christmas markets and associated attractions if you’re coming in the next few weeks.

Not really early evening, but at 7pm on the 30th there is the torchlight parade. You can buy tickets and take part, or just watch.

Also look at The Edinburgh Christmas website.

There's a lantern thing on at the zoo and a Christmas lights nights at the botanic gardens (check dates, that might finish before Xmas).

Train to North Queensferry, see the bridges. Or out to Kinghorn and see the lights of Edinburgh across the Forth as night falls. Trains from Waverley 15:42, 16:07 to Kinghorn, Haymarket four minutes later (couple of nice wee pubs in Kinghorn as well.) Could get off at North Queensferry or Dalmeny on the return and catch a later train back as well.
