Honeymoon in Scotland

We will be honeymooning in Scotland from Aug. 25-Sept. 4, arriving and departing from Glasgow. We plan on renting a car and driving around to see as much as we can in that time period. Some people have told us that we don't need to book B&Bs/hotels in advance, that we should just "wing it". That makes me nervous. Do we need to book in advance? We already know that we'll have to stay outside of Edinburgh because August is so busy there...

Any advice please!

If for no other reason than to make your honeymoon perfect (which you both deserve), I would NOT follow the "wing it" advice. You certainly might get lucky, but confirmed reservations will allow you to linger enroute from place to place and it will be much easier to plan routes in advance or input addresses into your GPS (a "must have" accessory, IMHO!) Also, it never hurts to let your hosts know, in advance, that you're honeymooning...some may well offer you some little extras. Help with route planning here:

Once you've begun to select some destinations, find the more specific TA Scotland forums on which to post questions and I'm sure you'll get loads of help refining down your itinerary. Best of luck!!

It all depends on where you will be visiting and what is your budget. I would have thought that accommodation, particularly in hotels, should not be too difficult to find at that time of year.

Hi, Scotland's a great choice for your honeymoon.

It is worth checking what's on in the areas you are most interested in since that will impact hotel/guest house availability. It will also let you decide if there are events of activities that you want to be part of too...

A good site to do that on is List which covers all sorts of events across Scotland:

During the time you visit there are a couple of big events taking place:

Edinburgh - Golden Oldies World Rugby Festival

Inveraray - Connect Music Festival

If you want to take in some Scottish events/culture during your trip here are a couple of ideas:

Highland Games

Birnam - http://www.birnamhighlandgames.com/

Dunoon - http://www.cowalgathering.co.uk/

Viking Festival

Largs - http://www.largsvikingfestival.com/

Drumnadrochit or Isle of Mull

Pitlochry or Isle of Mull

Have fun planning your trip!
