Help with Northern Ireland portion of itinerary

My sons and I will be making our 1st visit to Ireland and Northern Ireland for 12 days in early June. We fly into Shannon and will spend the 1st 2 nights in Galway before heading to County Donegal (Ardara) for 2 nights. I have allocated the next 4 nights to Northern Ireland before heading back to the Republic.

How would you split up the 4 nights and where? Derry, Portrush or Portstewart, Belfast? From Belfast we will be stopping in Monaghan town for 1 night so we can visit the county museum (my great-great grandfather emigrated from Monaghan) before ending in Dublin.

I would do 1 night in Derry the city of culture, then spend a night in the glens in the medows b&b Cushendall and 2 nights in Belfast.

Given your ancestry, it might be worth looking at the Ulster-american folk park at Omagh for a side trip. It is about an hour's drive from Derry but needs the guts of 3 hours to do it justice. I love it but it does depend on what you want to fit into your time here.

Yip definately a secondly vote for the American Folk Park.

Places that would be my favourite;

Derry

Ballintoy Harbour (near Portrush)

Crumlin Road Jail (newly refurbished and opened to public tours)

Newcastle & Mournes (County Down)

Have a great trip.

Don't miss the walking tour in Derry. That was very interesting and it was only 4 pounds pp.
