Are you aware that Mumbles isn't much more than a village? There are a few pubs but that's about it.

Swansea nightlife isn't anything to behold (the week I spend there on a University fieldtrip was one of the longest of my life!) but it is a lot better than Mumbles.

It's not that bad Speedbird! Well, it certainly can't compete with Brighton that's for sure. Mumbles is more quaint, Swansea has a few clubs but not on a par with Funky Buddha or Honeyclub. If you want something different, then why not, nice beaches (sand!) to recuperate on.

One of my engineers at work has been working this week at the new Oceana Club in Swansea - he was very impressed by the look of it (and in his job, gets to see the inside of lots of clubs and bars!). Details here: http://www.oceanaclubs.com/swansea/

Regarding Mumbles, much as I never experienced it myself, used to hear a lot about the "Mumbles mile" pub crawl. However, for a girls night out, assuming bars and clubs may be more your thing, I'd guess that Swansea would be the better option for you.

As most of the pubs in the mubles are closed down the mumbles mile is not what it used to be would advise to start on wine street and make your way onto the Kingsway and try the new oceania club as it will be open by then

Thanks everyone for your replies. I had heard of the "mumbles mile" so presumed it would be quite good for going out. Did consider Cardiff but then would be nice to have the beach in August to use so guess Swansea would be the better option?!

Ok,

Mumbles is a small sea front village about 4 miles outside Swansea. There used to be lots and lots of pubs scattered along the sea front over the distance of a mile. The idea was to drink one pint in every pub. Unfortunately a number of pubs have closed due people wanting the land they are on to develop, its a very nice part of the world.

There are a few pubs still worth visiting there, The White Rose, Salt, but purely for a change from Swansea. If you are only in the Swansea for a limited time, I wouldnt bother.

Swanasea has excellent night life, lots of money has been poured into the city for redevelopment. The hub of the night life is based around Wind Street (Pronounced Wined Street). In the space of around 500 meteres of a pedestrinanised street there is around 40 bars, ranging from your chain pubs, whetherspoons, Walkabout, Varsity, Yates, Lava Lounge etc, to smarter funky bars, Bar Seven, Pitcher & Piano, Revolution.

Clubs are a little limited, there is Play at the bottom of Wind Street, which is a nice club, has an R,n,b and funky dance room. Oceania, Jumping Jacks, Crowbar & Escape on the Kingsway. Oceania holds around 3500 and is one of the biggest clubs in the UK, split into various rooms with different music there is something to suit everyone. Jacks caters for the slightly older group and plays cheesy music. Crowbar is very small and caters for the funky house niche, while Escape is hardcore dance!

Swansea does need a few more smart bars to compliment Revs, 7, & Pitcher but it is an excellent night out, I have visited around 20 UK cities for nights out and you will not be disappointed with Swansea.

Mumbles is so close to Swansea it's practically the same place!

The nightclubs and bars in the city centre are great.

Mumbles is a little more sedate, but there are more upmarket restaurants and bistros there, on the sea front and on Newton Road.

Mumbles is a good place to start a night out before going in to the city.

if you're coming to swansea for a drinking weekend recommended places to stay in the centre are premier inn at salibrious place wind street, travelodge swansea central princess way, the viilage hotel is a nice new hotel on the docks/marina area, swansea marriott on marina, the dragon hotel is right in the centre as well. wouldn't bother going to mumbles only seaside village with lots of restaurants and ice cream parlours but nice for families and couples. easily get bus or taxi around seafront between swansea and mumbles. head for swansea with main publand in swansea being wind street also new aspers casino open and clubs like oceania and escape on kingsway. during summertime in august boat trips around gower coast operate, check out gower explorer and gower coast adventures. useful websites for all accomodation and info is "www.visitswanseabay.com" or "www.swansea.gov"
