Newport to Dublin

My wife and I will be travelling to Dublin from Newport on 16 June 2012. I would appreciate some advice on the best way to travel.

Thanks in anticipation.

LOL

Thanks my lord. It seems nobody has told the Dragons that Gwent is no more. :)

At the end of the 22-year existence of "Gwent", a lot of people were still using "Newport, Mon.", so we shouldn't be surprised that 16 years on, some people are still using "Newport, Gwent". There are even post offices still giving their addresses in that form - despite the Post Office themselves saying they don't need or want county names in addresses (for them, simply "Newport" is enough).

Progress? Who needs it?

Perhaps people want to distinguish between Newport in the Midlands, Newport on the Isle of Wight and Newport, South Wales (aka Newport, Gwent).

However back to the original topic of this thread, I think we will choose the train/ferry option.

All your advice is most appreciated.

You should also post this topic on the Ireland forum where you will get further good advice.

And probably no mention of Gwent, Monmouthshire, Huntingdonshire, Westmorland et al.

Enjoy your vacation

Yes, I didn't for a moment ever think otherwise. As an Aussie, I'm well practiced in 'stirring'. It's a national sport here. :)

We are beginning the opposite direction, from Dublin to Holyhead to Newport to Bristol and then to Taunton in Somerset. May I assume that we can find transport via Ferry and train with perhaps a bus link to get to trains in the reverse direction? Your accounts sound great.

In the end, we flew from Cardiff to Dublin. It seemed much easier (& quicker) than the ferry/train options.
