LLangoed hall --a good choice?

We have 2 nites to spend around brecon park before we go down to cardiff. Llangoed hall looks beautiful, but it is strange that their on line rates are half the rates given by the hotel--i called the hotel to confirm that. Our travel agent said that the hotel was no longer recommended by the agency due to poor service and management. Legacy took over the hotel in late 2009.

We are now debating between Llangoed hall and Gliffaes Country House Hotel in Crickhowell.

any recommedations? both seem well located for beautiful scenary and walks. We wanted greenery/water/...

LLangoed Hall is beautiful , if a little impersonal and outside The Breecon Beacons National Park. I have been there when it was owned by Sir Bernard Ashley and was unaware that it had been taken over. Gliffaes is ideally situated for exploring the park overlooking the River Usk, with good fishing and walks in the beautiful grounds, and surrounding area. The restaurant is excellent and they do one of the best afternoon teas around!
