North Wales Tour

Our party of 4 to 6 persons will be stoping in Holyhead on cruise in August for 1 day 8Am to 5PM. We would like to find private tour that covers Caernarfon Castle,Betws-y-coed, Snowdonia, and any other suggested sites in the area. We really do not want to rent a car or use ship's excursions (pricy). Any suggestions about who to contact would be helpful. Thanks. Ed

I can't give a personal recommendation but have a look here:

It's the Wales Official Tourist Guide Association. They list some guides that can do the area you want and helpfully they give guidelines on the fees you might expect.

Have fun.

Have been going to see family in Holyhead for many years and have never heard of a company running tours from Holyhead. Would suggest that best course of action would be to book two Taxis or a mini bus for the day.

I cannot reccomend any company but the follwing web site might provide the answer or your could email them for a suggestion re a company:-

If that does not work you could try yell.co.uk and simply search for Taxi / Holyhead.

Hope this is of some help.

You could try a local coach company to see if they would do you a tailor made tour. This company (I found them by googling) says their coaches start from a 7 seater

I would suggest that for only 4 - 6 people you would be well advised to use a local taxi firm. There are plenty of mini-bus taxis for hire and you should find them on an internet search. That way you can be sure you will be returned to base on time and you will have the benefit of local knowledge. You could consider going first to Llanfair PG, then to the viewing point to see both the spectacular bridges over the Menai Straits possibly visiting the huge Thomas Telford lion statues which are an Anglesey secret and hidden beneath the Britannia Bridge. Cross over to the Welsh mainland and head for Caernarvon Castle, through Beddgelert, then Porthmadoc, over The Cob to Porthmeirion maybe for lunch. Continue on to Betws-y- Coed, heading back towards Anglesey through Llanberis visiting the Slate Museum. On to Bangor and from there back to Holyhead. This is easily done in a day. An alternative route would be to Conway Castle and the Conway valley - there is so much to see.
