DFDS ferry Newcastle to amsterdam

Will be travelling on the ferry with one day in Amsterdam.

Does anyone know if you can leave your overnight bag in your cabin while you get the bus to the city.

Yes just put it in your hand luggage, me & the wife took 2 bottles of wine on when we went to drink in the cabin before paying onboard prices

The bus wil drop you off near the train station , you have the option to stay on board for the tour ... However I've never seen anyone actually do this ! haha

Unfortunately there is no attraction thingy made for the mini cruise from AMS-Newcastle or the other way around, in the things to do in Newcastle/Amsterdam. Neither is there anything where we can write reviews about DFDS Seaways in general (Maybe something to make for the future?)

So I just post my recent experience with DFDS Seaways around here:

Last weekend we booked the mini cruise AMS-Newcastle. Sailing to Newcastle gave no problems. Only the passport check into the UK took ages. They said it was unusual to have a check (which I think not..). And due to bad weather conditions we left 2 hours earlier. So we were able to walk around in Newcastle for less then 2 hours! It was even worse that we had to wait an hour at the port for our check-in for getting into the ship. At least 45min could have been spend in Newcastle. Because the boat leaves some time after check-in.

They only gave us an excuse and free sickness tablets for our way back home.. The complete boat was sick. Including us. Arriving at AMS, I felt pretty bad for the people visiting AMS. They only had a 45 min stay in the city due to a 4 hour delay.. We spend 21 hours on the boat..

I just want to make clear that please think about it twice before you book this cruise. I know they have offers, like one for free or whatever. I think you money is better spend taking an airplane. It is quicker and cheaper! Meals and activities are very very expensive on the boat. Really a rip off.

Very sad to say this.. I wish it all went different. They could have come up with some sort of compromise.

Just so you know. Cheers :)

Got the review below taken off as they don't review multiday cruises, so tripadvisor told me to put this in the forums...so thought I would share....

We took the DFDS "Mini-Cruise" from Newcastle to Amsterdam on the 17th April, with friends, as a chance to see Amsterdam & check out this whole "Mini-Cruise" idea.

Where do I start...a list is the only way!

THE BOAT/SHIP (whichever) was tatty, ageing and had a variety of smells that i don't care to ever experience again. It was tired and worn out looking.

THE STAFF - I have never witnessed, anywhere in the world, where the staff simply dont care! (Apart from one gentleman at the guest relations desk)

Their attitude stank! They didn't listen to what you were saying, didn't care what you thought of their service & simply didn't want to know. They played the old "limited english card" beautifully, until it came to sell you "extras" then the same staff were fluent!

I cannot emphasise how embarrisngly bad ,rude & uninterested they were!

THE ROOMS - (aka the broom cupboards) - If 2 of you stand up in their "upgraded" cabins then you struggled to move..tiny tiny rooms. The walls between the cabins are paper thin, you could hear conversations, toilet episodes and much much more..shocking.

THE FOOD - Some of the food on the Buffet (All you can eat for an eyewatering £34.95 (euros)) was just about okay - some you could bounce off the floor or use as a "DIY tool".

Breakfast was poor - Bacon that I seriously would think twice about giving my dog! - Orange Juice that was simply orange squash...but a smiling man will greet you with fresh orange juice, offer it you, put it on your table and THEN tell you how much will be added to your bill! Beware of that at every meal!

Casino - Laughable

Nightclub - Dire!

Entetainment - Cabaret at best.

PRICES - To say they are over-priced would be polite. The truth is, once the "captive audience" is there, they have you, they know they have you and boy do their prices reflect that!

TIPS - Don't use this service!

If you choose to then I have a few - Don't pre-book meals, wait until you are there and choose wisely from the 3 options of eating places. Or take your own food on board - they dont search you for that.

Upgrade to as best class as possbile, but even that is not great!

Take ear plugs

Last Tip - Read this review from the top again!

If you read my other reviews, you will see I am a fair person, don't have any complaints & thank people that make our trips that much more special but...

DFDS won't ever see another penny of our money and I won't ever consider their "mini-cruise" service (lets be fair its a ferry with "cells") again for any reason.

One word - Appaling!

Highfx, I totally agree with your review! That is exactly how me and my friend experienced it! I'm glad we are not the only one.

Hopefully more will join writing about DFDS. I'm trying if they can make an attraction thingy about DFDS. So people can write the reviews there. And it will be easy to find for others.

Hopefully you guys enjoyed Amsterdam anyways :)
