Good real ale pubs within walking distance train station

Could you recommend any pubs for us especially something historic.

We are a group in our 50s who appreciate the finer things in life.

We have done many real ale days out and beer festivals to Huddersfield, Leeds and Liverpool etc and fancy trying Sheffield.

Thanks a lot Jan and Chris

You couldn't get any closer. The sheffield Tap is in the railway station and is a real ale pub selling hundreds of beers and lagers locally produced and international.

Walk up the concourse and in to the city centre past the city library (it has a gigantic picture of Jessica Ennis on it) and that will bring you out on Norfolk Street where you will find the Brown Bear, a Samuel Smith tied house which sells their own brand beer lager mild and stout, lovely.

There is a free bus drops you outside the brown bear from close to the railway station if you don't fancy the walk.

Apart from the usual Wetherspoons, there are five, you could also try The Sportsman, The Devonshire Cat. The Frog and Parrot, The New Bath Hotel. I can't think of any more but there are. Fortunately, just up from the Brown Bear is the tourist information office so you should get all the directions from there

Enjoy

Forgot to mention,

Around Kelham Island is the official real ale area of the city. The Kelham Island Tavern has been voted CAMERA pub of the year more times than I can remember, the Fat Cat has it's own brewery. It's not quite in the city centre though, so maybe you can do that crawl on a second visit.

Probably best if everyone responds to your other question, so we don't get duplication
