Public transport between Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford

I visited the National Express website and it seems that they don't offer coach service between the two towns. Is rail travel a better option?

Thanks for any help.

Rail is your best bet for getting to Oxford from Stratford. The train can take as little as 1.5 hours, whereas a bus would likely take twice that. Go to the National Rail site for schedule info and to buy tickets: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/index.html

Hi choc; fairly frequent trains Oxford to Banbury (under 30 mins); change Banbury to Stratford (c 1 hour). Banbury is a very pleasant market town if you have a spare couple of hours. "Ride a clik (!) horse to Banbury Cross" (TA won't let me put in the NON rude word here!!!!). The cross is still there; the horse is not; come nice old buildings are!

Ah, yes. The famous Banbury Cross! Do they still bake Banbury cakes there? : )

Thanks, BuddyLancs.

Hi Choc: Local bakeries do and so do many others well outside Banbury; all different!

It is possible to get between Stratford on Avon and Oxford by bus, although it's no longer a through service and you have to change in Chipping Norton.

It's quite a nice run (and Chipping Norton is a pleasant place if there's a wait between buses) but as the original reply says it's a lot slower than the train.

If you do go by train there's no need to book in advance - the fare is the same on the day, and you don't risk a cancellation charge if your plans change.

BuddyLancs, I'll have to try some of those!

dzug, thanks. It is a relief to know that we won't pay more if we don't book in advance.
