Cairnryan to Wark - Any interesting places to visit

Will be arriving by ferry at Cairnryan and driving to Wark Northumberland which I think is 3.5 hour drive. Are there any points of interest to see on my way to Wark, interesting towns or any must sees. I would hate to miss out on something special on the way if there is something like this. My guidebook does not give enough information on this area. If there are places to see nearby I would arrive a day earlier and stay overnight on the way but if there is nothing of interest to see I will drive straight from ferry to Wark.

Which Wark are you travelling to? There's one on the River Tyne south of Bellingham and one near Coldstream. Either way you will first need to drive through Dumfries and Galloway towards Gretna Green http://www.visitdumfriesandgalloway.co.uk/

Going to the Wark on the Tyne you will be travelling alongside Hadrian's Wall, which is definitely worth seeing http://www.hadrians-wall.org/

The route to the other one near the Scottish border goes via border towns such as Hawick, Jedburgh and Kelso where there are several historical buildings that might be of interest

Have a good trip.
