Best Old Real Ale Pubs

We have to visit Norwich for a couple of days next week and will probably stay near the centre.

Can anyone recommend some good olde worlde pubs? The types where you bang your head on the timber on the way in, but it's worth it for the real ale?

Also if your local are there similar pubs in Lowestoft?

Thanks for your help.

Obviously the OP's original question means this thread is no longer relevant to them but definitely keep the recommendations coming which may help others for future trips to Norwich.

Duke of Welly is a good shout if a little off the beaten track for visitors staying in the centre of the city. Combine with Fat Cat Brewery Tap, Whalebone, Cottage and Plasterers.

Ah yes the former "Iron Duke" As a cockney the name always made me smile. Wonder why they changed it to the Duke of Wellington. ;-)
