Take the District Line towards Richmond then get off at Kew Gardens. A 5 minute walk will take you to the main entrance. Allow about 30 minutes in all.

What are they going to be like the first week of April? Is anything beginning to bloom there yet? Any buds on the trees? Here, the snow has not even melted yet and it still looks like the middle of winter...

We should be a few weeks ahead of you. Our daffodils are just starting to bloom and the cold (ish) spell we've had for the past 3 weeks is ending. Could be 70 by the weekend!

It will be wonderful in the first week of April. They do a thing called Bulb Burst until Mid-April, where over 4 MILLION bulbs (daffodils, crocus etc) will be in full bloom!

After your bulbfest, treat yourself to a traditional English tea at Maids of Honour, outside the main gate. Yummy!

Don't forget that the Thames River is a lovely way to get to Kew Gardens from London. Here's the website for the boats:

Sailings begin again on March 19. If I recall correctly, the trip to Kew Gardens took around an hour (very approximate guess).

Boats leave Westminster Pier at 10.30, 11.15, 12.00 and 14.00. The journey to Kew takes 90 minutes (Tony, the time must have flown by!) and the same boat goes on to Richmond and Hampton Court.

The fare for adults is 10.50GBP single, 16.50GBP round trip with a third off if you have a travelcard.
