I will be getting my hair cut & colored at a salon in Covent Garden. How much should I tip the hairdresser?
depends if you like what she does !
You do not have to tip
I tip my hairdresser £5 for a cut and blow dry
OR £15-£20 is she also adds colour
here in London not everybody tips
As barbexpat says you do not have to tip in Britain and the amounts suggested are way way excessive. No British person would dream ever of a £15 tip. Please do not do that here.Edited: 3:17 am, May 08, 2012
I am confused (and also British ! ) I live in central London and am a careful tipper-my £5-£20 tips to my regular hairdresser are not excessive-less than 10%
I would tip the colourist/stylist around 10% and the junior ( hair wash etc) a pound or two.
I usually tip £5 each to the person that washes my hair and blow drys.
I do not tip at all.
If I am really pleased I tip up to £5 but more usually £3 to the stylist. It's expensive enough for a hair do without adding more!
I tip around £10 to the stylist who cuts my hair and a couple of pounds to the junior who washes my hair (and gives a lovely head massage).
This is about 10%, but it is a very good cut, carefully done. I have tried cheaper cuts, but they don't last as well or take as little maintenance.
I like to show my appreciation for how well I am served.Edited: 6:11 am, May 08, 2012
I tip 10%, and another pound or two to the person who washes my hair.
Good grief. Tipping £15-20 ??.....I am astounded at the generosity of the ladies here.
I get that your hairdo's are ( apparently ) more expensive than us chaps, but I pay around £9 plus a £1 tip at most. Outside of London its almost half that.
