first time visitor

I have a friend who will be visiting London for the first time this summer. He is travelling on his own, middle-aged guy. where would you recommend him staying, he will be primarily in London for a few weeks. Looking for a good to luxury hotel.

If he's there on business, then Threadneedles or One Aldwych might be nice. He may also want to check into holiday flat rentals as this would be less expensive in the long run.

Do you have an idea as to his budget and which part of London he wants to stay in (e.g. If he is here on business, where will that take him?) and what his interests are? I am sure we can come up with some good suggestions.

Hi, don't let your arrival via Victoria Station restrict your 'accommodation horizons'. All of Central London (and many other places) is easily reached from Victoria Station by tube or bus, and if you happen to be especially encumbered with luggage then a black cab (taxi) will take you to your hotel. You can assume that anywhere in London is safe (why do we so often see this question?); but the population is mobile and we cannot vouch for individual citizens. The Mostyn Hotel, being located at Marble Arch, is very convenient for the 'smarter' western end of Oxford Street and for Hyde Park; it's nearer to Paddington Station than Victoria Station, but easily reached from either station by bus, within fifteen minutes or less. Your choice of hotel in Central London will most likely be based on convenience to the sights you wish to see and your preferred destinations for shopping and entertainment; and your budget, of course.

my friend usually stays at the tower thistle hotel at st katherines dock, it has a good location and 20-25 minutes from theatre land, along the south side of the thames at butlers wharf there is a good selection of bars and restaurants.....nearest tube is tower hill around half a mile walk
