Airport transfers

We will be arriving into Gatwick from Nice on 2/9. What is the quickest /most direct trip into London (near Oxford Street)? Also will be departing from Heathrow on 7/9 on a BA flight to Prague. Should I use a shuttle bus/train travel or public bus. Thanks for your help.

At what time does your flight arrive at Gatwick? Trains from the airport to London Victoria will be crowded with commuters until about 1000 so if you have an early arrival I suggest you linger at the airport and board a train departing after 0945 at the earliest.

Southern rail services to Victoria may be the best choice then a taxi, bus or the Underground to your hotel, but where have you booked near Oxford Street?

Travel to LHR can be as easy as boarding the Piccadilly line to LHR T5 for your BA flight but again let us know your starting point in the city centre.

Arrival at Gatwick is 16.50 South Terminal, staying at Radisson 350 Oxford Street.

Departing from same hotel for a BA flight at 11 am to Prague. I was thinking a shuttle which could pick me up at hotel and take to terminal 5.

Southern rail from Gatwick to Victoria will be the best choice with an arrival at that time. Rather than deal with the Underground from Victoria to Oxford Circus - it will be very busy and there are stairs to negotiate - a taxi from Victoria to the Radisson would probably be a more relaxed journey.

Your hotel is very near Bond Street station. Rather than use a booked car service consider taking the Underground. Take the Jubilee line from Bond Street to Green Park. Alight there and take the escalator up to the ticket hall then another down to the Piccadilly line platform.

The Piccadilly line will take you to T5 in about 45 minutes from Green Park station, where there are lifts from the train platform and ticket hall level straight to Departures. Maximum fare £5 but could be less if you use PAYG on Oyster.

A booked car service will cost about £30 - 35 for the journey to T5 with travel time about the same as the Underground journey if not a bit longer. If you do want to book a car have a look at www.expressways.co.uk www.londonheathrowcars.com or www.justairports.com

Good advice as ever from TP. The one thing you don't want to do is take a shuttle. The cost for one person is only slightly less then the cost for a pre booked car service and you are likely to have an unwanted tour of west London hotels before actually departing for the airport.

Thank you all for your replies. I will do the train back to Heathrow!! Rather spend my money in Prague than on a car transfer. Maybe BA have a dedicated bus????

Why would BA have a bus when there is a comprehensive tube network linked to Heathrow, and there's a dedicated express train service from Paddington?

The roads are clogged. Travel by train/tube is encouraged.
