My husband and I are planning to come to UK this coming week. We are flying stand-by (my husband is airline employee) and when we looked at the loads on the flights going the day we had planned, it appeared that flying two days earlier- Tuesday - would be "safer" (more empty seats). So now, we have the volcanic ash to worry about (which really bonks the whole system and the effect on standby folks is more profound than on paying passengers). But I have not lost hope (yet).
Would it be worth considering flying into Paris or Brussels and taking a ferry to UK? (Just assuming those airports aren't closed.) We don't have many options - Frankfurt or Zurich would probably work, but they seem too far.
Thanks in advance for your comments.
