Ice Wars....!

The Somerset House rink also has for the first time an ice wall "direct from the Highlands of Scotland" and a rather psychedelic website!

Wandered past the one being constructed in Kew Gardens today - in front of the Temperate House.

Judging by the proliferation of berries on the holly bushes, we (incl. wildlifde) are in for cold cold winter. Maybe the foragers now leave stockingup until later, why pay full price when you can get it later at discount ???

Very cold in Kew today, frost still on ground at 3pm.

The one at Marble Arch doesn't appear to have announce their times yet and the website is closed. Maybe they can't handle all the competition!!!

I'll only be visiting these ice rinks via the internet although I could do with one now. It is 30c here. I did love the Somerset House website.

So you can eat, skate and climb an ice wall. Looks like a good place to take a teenager to wear them out!

If your outside London - there is also usually a ice rink set up at Warwick Castle (although you do still pay to enter the castle to get to it). It is usually set up in the courtyard of the castle itself on the grassed area (if your familar with the place).

Over the past few years we have always incorporated ice skating in our Jan visit to London. Our favorite last year was the Royal Naval College in Greenwich which was new last year. Somerset House is also great. Skating in front of Hampton Court is also very nice. Imagine what Henry VIII would think...

I am a bit saddened to see Tower of London will have a rink as by the time we get there this winter it will be over.
