Heathrow to Kings Cross

Hi! We are arriving at Heathrow with luggage -- what is the quickest/easiest/economical way to get to Kings Cross tube station where our hotel is located?? Thanks!

It's an easy trip - the Piccadilly line goes directly from LHR to King's X.

If you arrive at any of T1,2 or 3, the underground station is located under the terminal buildings - you'll go downstairs from the arrivals hall and walk along one or two corridors, which may or may not have working travelators - !

If you arrive at T4, you can take the free Heathrow Express shuttle to the HEX station at T1,2,3, and then about a four or five minute walk from the HEX station to the tube station.

All eastbound Piccadilly line trains will go to King's Cross, unless otherwise posted (on the front of the train) or you hear an announcement. There should be escalators from the platform to street level, and I think there's one flight of stairs, too, but I might be mistaken.

A single fare is £3.80 from LHR to zone 1; the trip should take about an hour.

Try and check the status of the Picadilly line on http://www.londontransport.co.uk/tfl/ prior to travel to see if any engineering works are planned for when you're arriving. It should be fine, but best to check if you can.

If you are arriving at the weekend it is definitely worth checking the site mentioned above as the Piccadilly will be partially closed on a number of weekends over the next few months for track upgrading.

The Heathrow underground stations are closed till late 2006 due to engineering works, station expansion, so you would need to take the free replacement bus to Hatton Cross station and get the Piccadilly line from there direct to Kings Cross. Don't worry if you have heavy luggage because they have luggage porters to help you!

Just to make it clear that it is ONLY The Terminal Four station that is shut until around September 2006. The other station remains open as normal.

And in case your wondering why - terminal 4 underground station is closed while they re-align the station and the tracks to allow the line to be extended to include the new terminal 5 building now taking shape at the west end of the airport.
