Train from Dover to Canterbury.

Hello all! We dock (cruise) on Apr 11. Seen the fascinating castle & underground. I know I won't get hubbie off the ship until at least 10:30am. We have direx to the train station and the website is difficult, so I ask you: Is it really only half hour to get to Canterbury and is it practical or must we rush over and rush back to be on the ship by 6:30pm (for a sailaway at 8pm)? I don't know if Canterbury East is close to the tourist action & Cathedral. Do you? Thanks, Cheers!

See for yourself - www.nationalrail.co.uk

As for Canterbury - both stations are on the outskirts of the central area - it's about half a mile to the cathedral from either of them

www.streetmap.co.uk will give you a map of Canterbury

Just to add, only the slow trains take 30 minutes - the fast ones take half of that
