Gatwick options

We will arrive at Gatwick in the morning and have to get to our hotel near Kensington Palace.

I see many options and find it confusing. It looks like Gatwick express would be best but the price range provided is so wide that it might be a good idea to uber.

Can uber pick up at the airport? Some cities don't allow it.

All information and advice is appreciated.

AFAIK Uber are not allowed to pick up at Gatwick Airport.

Yet you haven't given us any information that would help us to look up the fare for you (date, time, number of people, ages of any children, one way or round trip, and if round trip when returning).

The Southern train services to Victoria will probably be cheaper but depends on the answers to post #1. Then maybe a taxi from the railway station to the hotel, which hotel are you staying at?

Any road option starting from Gatwick to central London is likely to take two or three times longer than the train, most descriptions of the road journey include the word “purgatory” - understanding, as said, much greater detail as to date, time and party will give more specific advice.

4. Re: Gatwick options

There are three train options between Gatwick and London.

Two go to Victoria (the Gatwick Express is between 2 and 6 minutes faster than the Southern train) and the other goes to Blackfriars, London Bridge (sometimes these are alternatives) City Thameslink, Farringdon, St. Pancras and points north.

Driving from Gatwick only makes sense at around 2 to 4 am.

That is all why we need to know more to be really helpful.

OK, here are your options - these are all walk-up fares, for two adults:

- Gatwick Express, £39.80

- Southern Railway to London Victoria, £32.40

- Southern Railway and one-day travelcard, £34.20

- Using Oyster Card or contactless credit or debit card: £16.60 (£8.30 per person) from Gatwick Airport to London Victoria, not valid on Gatwick Express. You can get Oyster Cards at Gatwick Airport. This will be your cheapest option.

Use Southern. If you can pay with contactless or Apple/Android Pay, do. You will need one card/device per person. This option shouldn't in principle save money over Oyster but, depending on how much more travelling around within London you do on your arrival day, it might. This is because you start with a single journey from outside the London travel zones and then have further journeys on the same day within the inner zones only. For real enthusiasts (aka anoraks), there's an explanation here:
