Oyster card for Thameslink train

Hello.

I have my oyster card and need a Thameslink train from Gatwick to Blackfriars station.

To buy ticket with Oyster, do I need to go to a machine or directly at the train ?

Thank You.

If you have enough PAYG balance on the card, you just touch in and touch out.

You don't buy a ticket with an Oyster Card, you touch in at Gatwick Airport, out at Blackfriars and the value of the journey is deducted automatically.

if you have an Oyster - its tap and go. just make sure you've topped up online to have enough credit. most stations have entry gates which only let you in when you tap on the yellow reader. remember to tap out too.

This link tells you how much credit you need on the card for the day and time you are travelling. tfl.gov.uk/campaign/…

You might not be able to top up on line but should be able to at the station or TfL desk in the south terminal arrivals area.

Thank You everyone.

One more question, do I need a paper ticket to use the 2x1 offer and with the oyster I will not have one, is this right ?, then is better to buy ticket without oyster ?

Yes you will need a paper ticket from a National Rail station, you could use decoy tickets, see tripadvisor.co.uk/Travel-g186338-c133479/Lon… for an explanation on these.

If you're travelling solo, as your post implies, the 2for1's are an irrelevance btw.
