Which Airport makes more sense? Luton v Gatwick?

Hi. I'm looking at booking our flights from FARO back into London. (Easyjet) I've done my research and need to know from those who have been there...Luton or Gatwick?? We need to get to Paddington area.

Gatwick express will take us to Victoria station, would it be feasible (cost wise) to get a black cab from Victoria up to Paddington? I know we could then get the underground, but we'll have luggage and 2 children.

OR Luton coach will take us just over 1hr from airport but drop us at paddington station.(this is also the cheaper option)

Argh. Really unsure....time v money??? Is one airport better than the other?

Thank you x

Take the southern train to victoria from gatwick and get the tube to paddington station if cost is an issue. Use contactless or oyster card and this jourmey (off peak) will cost you £8.10.

In a recent survey of user satisfaction of UK airports, Luton came last. I treat it as a "last resort" option.

The railway station is attached to the terminal at Gatwick, really easy, and no need to pay for Gatwick Express. You can do the whole journey easily by train from Gatwick - take the Thameslink train to Farringdon and transfer there to the underground - there are lifts so changing platform is easy.

Thank you. The gatwick Express is really expensive, it's what's been putting me off! I'll google your idea and see how that looks. Thanks again.

Also, we'd be arriving at 12.10pm, so I'm allowing 1 hr for customs/airport stuff. I"m assuming train won't be super busy in the middle of the day?

Sorry, if we do your suggestion rcspeirs, would we use our Oyster cards or need to buy a ticket? I'm assuming use our Oyster card once we get back into the city though.

There should be plenty of room on the trains outside peak morning hours as they are long trains.

Geez. Just read some reviews on both Gatwick and Luton on FB. Neither are looking great lol! Just a big decision to make when you're sitting on the other side of the world!

Remember that the vast majority of people who have no problems never post anything to say how wonderful their experience was. You can find a bad review for almost anything if you search.

Definitely Gatwick, as others have said. Luton is a building site, and the hassle of getting the shuttle bus to the station makes this a no-brainer. Don't stress too much about the reviews.

The Gatwick Express is an overpriced tourist trap and unnecessary - just use the regular trains as advised.

There's also little need to stay in Paddington, there are better options.
