Blackpool's Image

This week there has been dancing competion at the tower which has attracted a number of visitors from around the world. I have spoken to some of them and they are shocked at the behaviour of people in the town at night! If this is the reaction of visitors how can we expect to attract more visitors from overseas

Yes I've been to Las Vegas (I replied in the wrong name by accident, won't reply in this name again in case I get accused of self-promotion) and from experience Las Vegas is a a false fabrication of the world, be it Rome, Egypt, Paris etc.

Regardless, Blackpool is Blackpool: THE Number One UK holiday destination and 8,000,000+ say so, try to argue with the facts.

No one is proud of the way Blackpool has gone, there is a rise in binge drinking or violence.

But no one is proud of the "New Labour" government and i'll bet all that call Blackpool voted for them!!

Blackpool will remain THE UK Premier destination, the Labour government will NOT remain in power and whoever reads this and responds in a derogatory manner WILL return here.

You cannot help it, love it or hate it (sorry for the cliche) Blackpool will always be here: It's what makes us British.

You can dress it up all you want with new buildings, painting etc but I was thinking more in the way of clientel that go - that will never change in my opinion and that is the issue. Blackpool will always be regarded as a place to go for stag / hen parties or a lads day out on the beer etc.

"Always" is a very long time. The gross behaviour of the so called stag and hens could be stopped easily. The only question is do we have the will? I would make a difference overnight if I had the power. OK the Jails would be full for a few weekends and every Monday the fines would be huge but guess what? Blackpool would soon lose its attraction for these low life if we stopped allowing them the run of the place. They have slowly but surely eradicated my couples and families trade to the point where I have one, yes one booking for this coming weekend and that is for two nights. This is the reward we get for upgrading our premises to three star status with Visit Britain and spending tens of thousands more on fire alarms etc. The previous council was big on regulation for those who didn't really need it but ran a mile when faced with the awkward squad who operate on the fringes of the accommodation sector. With few exceptions they simply did not tackle them. Add that to the politically correct attitude of the Police and I am not surprised that the town has degenerated at weekends. The jury is out on the Conservatives but I am underwhelmed by their "voluntary" code of conduct scheme. This is doomed to failure and without proper teeth will not work. All Hotels/Guesthouses, drinking establishments and Stag/Hen Agencies should be licenced and this licence should be withdrawn if they do not ensure the behaviour of their clientele. It won't happen of course until we stop this "Blackpool welcomes all" mantra.

Avenue 56 - At last someone gets the point!

Very sad to see the demise of the B&B . hotel business, it must be a very worrying time for all concerned as we are into June and the weather is reasonable.

People are voting with their feet - Blackpool watchout!

Dont panic, for we have a new policing idea to tackle the issue

People drunk and causing trouble will be shown a yellow or red card to control their behaviour and wait for it......could be fined £80 for being disorderly.

www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/blackpool-news…

How about an extra zero on that fine? and then you don't need to hit us ratepayers with a 11% increase on our council tax for extra policing (wait cross that off....extra speed cameras).

But people in other towns beware for if Blackpool does sort out its Saturday night drinkers then they will be coming to a town near you.

So the whole country should have fingers crossed that Blackpool survives!

Of course 8 million visitors has to be judged against the 12 to 13 million of only a few years ago when there were relatively few stag/hens. If you discount these then the true figure of traditional couples and families will be much less.

To me, Blackpool is what you make it, and you alone.

Yes, people like to badmouth it, but thats just their opinion, and you have your own.

If you want to walk down the street and see the penis shaped confectionary, drunken hen nights, expensive prices, big crowded funfair and faded exterior, you can do, but equally, if you want to, you can walk down the street, laugh at the old fashioned saucy sea side post cards, have a chat with someone you're sharing a bench with, realise how good value so much of the place is, see some of the last attractions of their kind in the world in the Pleasure Beach, and many great traditional attractions, and admire the theming and traditional seaside architecture.

So really, its what you make it. Go along and expect to hate it, and find every little thing to pick at in order to back that up, or go along determined to have a good time, and think of all the great bits!

I mean me, for example, my partner and I will go along, park by the tower, wander through a few arcades and walk up Central Pier, maybe get a lovely cup of tea and a cake in a cafe there, have a laugh with a few of the stall holders, wander along the prom and up North Pier, relaxedly walk to the end of the pier, buying some home made orange fudge from a pavillion on the way, admire the beautiful 19th Century Italian Carousel at the end of the pier, grab a reclining chair in the partially covered sun lounge, and gaze out to sea over a cup of tea, then upon heading back, walk along part of the beach and up to the town centre to get something to eat at a nice restaurant, then for just £4.50 each, go to Funny Girls, a world famous and much praised (and celebrity frequented!) drag cabaret club, get 4 hours of music, comedy and entertainment, after the show, walk down the prom, looking at the scultures in the 'Blackpool Show' or whatever it';s called, then at the end, get a tram covered in illuminations back to the tower, and on walking back to the car, grab a bag of fresh donuts, then head home, after a WONDERFUL day, and not even visiting the Pleasure Beach, Waxworks, SeaLife centre or other attractions!

So once again, it's what you make it!

You're all wrong. We're selling up and going, but nothing to do with Blackpool, just property prices and our plans for the future.

Blackpool has been wonderful. This has to be the best sea side resort of all time, trams, pier, pleasure beach. People only knock it if they paid peanuts for a monkey house!!!!
