Depends on how much driving you want to do?

If you want a few longish trips in to the lakes but a village of activities all around you try Oasis at Whinfell:

Or the less driving route stay in Keswick with all its amenities and activities on your doorstep:

We just booked Monkhouse Hill Cottages which seem quite child friendly with activities etc if they get fed up with sightseeing. Also, rental of the cottage gets you membership during stay to a local hotel's leisure facilities so they can also go swimming etc if the weather is bad. worth checking out.

We haven't been yet but will be there in a coupe of weeks.

We got back recently from the Lakes.

Monkhouse Hill was very good. The cottage itself was nice with all the food and drink we pre-ordered there waiting for us. They had put up a stairgate, provided a cot and a box of toys for our baby as requested.

In addition for older children, there is a large paddock that they can run around in surrounded by fields with cows and sheep and a playground with swings, slide and a climbing frame. also there is an inddor games room with table tennis and a couple of other things.

All in all, very well set up for children. Additionally, the free membership to the local SPA meant there was access to a nice pool which we took advantage of one morning (25 minute drive).

The only downside is that if you plan to drive to the southern lakes, Monkhouse is quite far north although I really liked the scenery up there and wouldn't necessarily choose to stay further south next time. Also, tesco.online delivers to the cottage so takes the stress out of lugging groceries up there.
