We will be in the area June 24-26, staying in Tunbridge Wells. Any suggestions regarding a car/driver or drirver/guide?
The local transport system is (generally!) good, so there isn't much call for driver/guides.
If you know what you want to see/do, it may be easier to get a local taxi/mini cab to get you to set places.
Please tell us what you'd like to see in Kent, and we'll be able to give you an idea of what can be done by public transport, and what you'd need a taxi for.Edited: 4:08 am, May 20, 2013
This is about 7 miles south of Tunbridge Wells. Not sure about driver and guide but you could just get a local taxi firm to take you there and agree a time to be collected a few hours later.
And Penshurst is about 7 miles north of Tunbridge Wells
There is a very good map of Kent showing all public transport and the tourist attractions on one page
And for Tunbridge Wells specifically
You can certainly visit a lot of places with resorting to the expense of a car and driver. And you will get to meet some nice people in my former home county.
Thank you. Pashley Manor Gardens was not on our radar. It looks very interesting. Perhaps we will try to go to there or Penshurst on the day we arrive, if we have time.
Thank you for the map links. I think we will get a driver, since we will be in the area only two full days and that will give us more flexibility.
Thanks for your reply. Since we will only have two full days and want to see sites stretching from Chartwell to Leeds Castle, a car/driver gives us flexibility and will be worth the cost. We found some from the Blue Badge web site.
We are staying at Danehurst, a B&B outside of RTW, and would welcome pubs/restaurants for dinner and any special places in RTW itself. Thank you again for your response.
The accommodation is in Rusthall, it's going to take a good 1hr drive from here to Pashley Manor, concentrate on closer areas such as Penshurst or even closer Groombridge Place. In TW there is Calverley Park gardens across the road from the station.
One hour drive ?? The AA route finder says 20 minutes. I could drive to central London in an hour !!!
It takes at least 20 mins to get from Rusthall to the A21 !
If you do decide to visit Pashley, the best route is via Frant, Wadhurst & Ticehurst, less traffic & nice flowing country roads, although expect a bit of traffic as you go through the villages of Wadhurst & Ticehurst, just like Sissinghurst due to local's parking both sides of the road.
