bus trip or train to dover area?

I'll be visiting London at end of October/beginning of November. Is it better to take the train to the Dover area to see the cliffs, the wartime tunnels, and castle, or should we stick with a bus tour?

If we take the train, is it reasonable to walk between the items of interest, visit them, and take the train back - all in one day?

Thanks!

The road journey from London to Dover will take considerably more time than by train. Fast trains from London St Pancras make the journey to Dover Priory in as little as 70 minutes, which will leave you more time to sightsee on the ground than from a coach window.

Off Peak day returns are available from £36.30 per person. You need not book in advance to obtain that fare but do check train times and fares for your desired date at www.nationalrail.co.uk Check for delays or planned works at www.southeasternrailway.co.uk

Check the location of Dover Castle and the tunnels. They are on top of a very big hill above and a little to the outside of the main part of town. as befits an 11th century defensive structure. It is walkable if you are reasonably healthy, but some prefer to take a taxi from town up the hill.
