In Canterbury friends in Southend

Can anyone recommend a nice place to meet up between the two. We would maybe like a nice pub or not too expensive place to eat, mid pm till evening.

Thanks x

By car or public transport?

The problem is that transport links between Kent and Essex are poor. The two areas are separated by the wide expanse of the Thames Estuary and historically people on either side had few connections.

It would probably be easier for you all to meet in London.

By train - how about Stratford in London for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Westfield Stratford City shopping centre? Direct trains from Canterbury West to Stratford International and from Southend to the adjacent Stratford (regional) station.

The first crossing point on the river for cars is at Dartford - some 40+ miles away from both of you.

North of the river you have Lakeside shopping centre or Bluewater shopping centre on the south side. Both have a range of restaurants.

If you want to stay south of the river, there are reasonable pubs in the villages a short distance from the river crossing. The George, Cricketers, Kings Head all in Meopham.

Not too much in Dartford or Gravesend towns themselves.

I suggest The Plough in Eynsford, near Dartford. Lovely location by the river.
