Record Shops in Southampton/Portsmouth

Trying to do some record shopping on my trip in the fall, was wondering what was out there. The only place I've been able to find so far is Boo Hoo records in Southampton. Are there any other shops or thrift stores out there that are selling vinyl?

Sweet Memories, Pie and Vinyl in Portsmouth.

Reflex Records in Gosport, A Slice of Vinyl at Gosport Market on Saturdays.

Back Tracks and Oxfam Music Shop in Southampton, in addition to BooHoo.

Just from the web, not visited!

The only specialist vinyl shop I can think of in Southampton is the Oxfam Music shop mentioned by South Coast Gal. If you're looking for old vinyl there are a whole lot of other charity shops (try East Street in the city centre), but the Oxfam one is the only specialist I know of. Maybe there is somewhere in Portswood (where I never go. I have no idea. Just thinking out loud here), where there are lots of students.

There are two streets in Southampton that have at least a dozen thrift shops (we call them charity shops) in each whereby you can buy albums from as little as £1 - most will be crap but you will always find a few gems each time you visit. These places are Shirley High Street (buses leave West Quay/Asda frequently) and Portswood High Street - (Buses leave Southampton High Street at least every 7 minutes - numbers 7 and UC1 are best, ask to get off at Portswood Broadway). Whilst in the City Centre looking at the said Oxfam music shop turn down East Street where there are 4- 5 more charity shops in that road.

Gosport High Street is another road full of charity shops.

When in Portsmouth take a look in the Vintage shops which are bound to have records but not cheap: Dress Code, Dead Mans Glory, plus One Legged Jockey.

Winchester ( which is a 20 minute train ride / drive away ) has an indepdent record store in Kings Walk called Elephant which may be useful to you . Every other Sunday , Winchester has a vintage market on the high street which may be worth checking out also .

I think Pie & Vinyl in Portsmouth could well cover some of your needs.

Forget Oxfam in Southampton I'm afraid - it's gone downhill with poor quality and high prices. Try Boo Hoo Records in Northam for great bargains and fun browsing....

I am sure the op has come and gone now, but I suppose this is a useful thread for anyone else in search for record shops.

Bluebell racing - Charity shop products are only as good as their donations and varies from time to time.

I have been hearing about the regeneration of Northam Road and plenty of shops opening up there again. I haven't been for a while but will definitely visit Boo Hoo and would urge fellow Sotonians to support Northam Road as it was once a big part of Southampton's Culture.
