Fastest way to Gosport from London?

I have to get to a place in central Gosport.

I'm trying to work out if I'm better off (faster) getting a train to Portsmouth Harbour, then taxi from there direct to Gosport , or a train to Fareham and then a taxi.

Train to Fareham is half an hour longer than to PH.

(I've sort of ruled out taking the ferry across to Gosport from PH just because I'll have to wait for it and then there's the 10 minute ride, and I might not find a taxi at Gosport.

Cost is not an issue between the two options.

Thanks, what do you think?

No brainer.

Its the option you have almost dismissed.

train down to Portsmouth harbour and across on the ferry.... you never have to wait long.

There are always taxis waiting on the Gosport side.

It is also very slow by car down to Gosport.

If you are not convinced, then train to Fratton will save you the grief of getting out of Portsmouth....

Every time I've gotten the ferry over there has been a few taxis around, at any time of day.

I seem to remember there being a taxi phone number advertised on the wall of the ferry terminal, so worse case scenario you could call a local cab firm and get a taxi in a few minutes.

Gosport is a total pain to get to! Supposed to be the largest town in the country without a train station. I definitely agree the best mode of public transport is the ferry.

Gosport once had a very busy railway station, particularly during the two wars bringing supplies for the Navy etc..... axed in 1953 of course.

~Please report back how you get on..... I have always found a taxi on arrival in Gosport. There is a good cafe / restaurant in the premier marina (just north of where the ferry berths.

Thanks to all for persuading me to take the ferry was travelling across the water less than 5 mins after getting off the train and quite a few taxis waiting on the rank on the Gosport side.

Definitely a no brainer as someone said in an early response.

These days the best thing about Gosport is the ferry across to Pompey!
