When we were in the New Forest it was just a question of driving round until you spot some, then stop for the photoshoot. There are lots of them, and they seemed to be happy to pose, although I expect they would bolt if you got too close

The areas around Beaulieu and Burley are usually pretty reliable.

There is also a deer sanctuary at Bolderwood with some marked walks which you might be interested in. Some lovely drives in this area as well where you are likely to see ponies. Link new-forest-national-park.com/bolderwood-deer…

Also, anywhere with grassy open areas - outside Lyndhurst both sides, plentiful; Culverly Green, just outside Beaulieu; Matley Green, between Beaulieu Road Station and Lyndhurst.

It also depends on the time of year, and time of day of course! Full summer, you are likely to find them in the woods sheltering from the sun!
