We will be in Brighton for just 1 day on the 24th and I wondered what time, in general, the shops in the Lanes close?
on a weekday it'll be around 6pm for most shops. some a bit later, maybe 630.
Thanks so much for the update. Have you seen the sand sculptures at the Marina? Is it worth trying to fit into our itinerary?
Bojangles posted this thread about the sand sculptures last month:
Are you a family with kids? If so, you may want to try to fit in the Volks Electric Railway, which runs along the seafront from the Pier to the Marina.
By the way, most shops in the Lanes close by 6pm.
Thanks so much for the link. I will definitely add it to my plans. I am traveling with two teens 15 and 18. Do you think they would enjoy the aquarium or shopping in the Lanes more?
I think they'd prefer the Lanes and the North Laines (the latter has trendy and unique boutiques and shops; the former has antiques and some nice shops too) to the Sea Life Centre.
The Volks Railway to the Marina (and sand sculptures) is fun for all ages. As is a walk along the Promenade at the seafront.
I'm assuming you'll visit the Royal Pavilion too. :-)
I have the Pavillion first on our list, then down to the seafront to the pier (thought the kids would like that). Then the aquarium (my daughter said it appealed to her), then the railway to the Marina. Then the railway back and a walk along the Promenade and cut up to Devonshire Place to the house I lived in for 2 years as a kid.
At that point it gets tricky, because I think the Lanes will close soon to this time....but, I figured we could walk through them anyway and look in the windows....or just walk along the seafront towards Hove.
It's hard when everything one wants to do closes at 5 or 6 and one still has the whole evening.
Thanks for all your input,

You actually may have time to do all these things - it will just be a full day. You'll have about 7 hours from the time you arrive, to the time when the shops close at 6pm. Note that the Sea Life Centre website says "Recommended quieter visiting times during the summer are 10am-11am and 3pm - 5:00pm."
Ahh..quieter times at the aquarium. Thanks for the tip!
