Anyone know Brighton well?

Trying to find a place to stay- can anyone give a general breakdown of what the various neighborhoods are? Would prefer a quieter area that might have a few good pubs and restaurants nearby.. not quite in the center of things, etc. We will be there in July, but during the week, not for the weekend. thank you!!

Thank you, the Claremont looks good! Not sure if we'll choose Hove over Brighton, but if we do, we'll definitely stay there. Is it easy to get between the 2 places; is there a bus, taxis, or is it best to walk?

All three are available to you: I live in Hove (a few blocks from the Claremont), and walk to & from Brighton almost daily. The area is served by many buses that will take you through the centre of town and beyond, and you can ring up for taxis (or go to a taxi stand - taxis can't be hailed on the street). But as you'll be here in July, and hopefully the weather will be good, walking is a great way to see the city (especially along the seafront).
