Day trip to Canterbury

We will be staying in Brighton for a couple of days next year and I would very much like to go to Canterbury for a day trip. Is is doable and do we waste too much time with travelling? We do not have a car so need to go by public transport. What do you suggest?

Well there's an hourly train changing at Ashford which takes just short of 2.5 hours

£15.60 cheap day return (0932 train and later) or £24 earlier in the day.

You can travel via London more expensively and more frequently but no quicker.

Up to you whether that sort of travelling is worth it.

alexhh - Yes it is doable, takes about 2+ hours by train - type in details in below link for full details.

However, if you are staying in Brighton "for a couple of days" it's not very practicle. You may be better off staying in London and visiting both towns from there or may be spend one night in Brighton and one in Canterbury.
