Getting Around Bournemouth?

Hi guys, have a few questions regarding getting around in Bournemouth.

A group of us are coming for a weekend away by train and are staying in the Travelodge so I have a few questions regarding buses.

- The train station doesn't seem to be in central Bournemouth. Is there a bus that will go from the station to the Travelodge? What number is it? How long does it take and how frequently does it run?

- Is there a bus from the Travelodge into Town? What number is it? How long does it take and how frequently does it run?

- Is there anywhere you can recommend for a good Chinese or Indian that is fairly central?

- Are there any decent bars you can recommend were you can get a table and actually hear yourself speak without booming music?

Thanks for any help.

If there are a few of you, a taxi only costs a few pounds to get into town from the station. The taxis are yellow.

Hiya Andy!

Firstly, we have 3 types of buses. Red, Yellow and Blue. Blue buses are for more central journeys (Town centre, Bournemouth Triangle etc) Red and yellow will take you on more less significant journeys (Small streets, supermarkets.)

I suggest for you blue busses, they're more for visitors as they take you to prime locations.

As for your question regarding a bus straight to travel lodge, we have two in Bournemouth and if I remember correctly there is not a bus outside that runs however it's only down the road.

*Taxi's would probably be the best if you're not use to the bus route as it is rather complicated (As I guess it would be anywhere for someone not local.) And if it's a group of you, and the taxi cost you £7-£11(Average Price for short journeys) So that's what £2-3 each, that's about the price of bus fair. This would also take you straight to Travel Lodge.

I suggest an all you can eat restaurant called Days (Next to Tk-Max, may have to take back entrance, that's easy to find, if at night. ) It's £15 A person and offers Chinese and Indian food (+More) It's not a formal place, people come in looking like they're are fresh from the Jeremy Kyle Show.

As for Bars, I think you'll find they're all kind of similar. So I'd just float around and find one that's bearable. Down here it's either, Loud and fun. Or Quiet and dead. So like I said, just float.

Any way, enjoy your visit to Bournemouth! Go to the right places, and it will be lovely!

You should use the Traveline web site for the South West.

www.travelinesw.com/swe/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2…

This site and all the others for different parts of the country enable you to plan any journey whether by bus, train , coach ferry etc and give you all the detail you need like maps of the bus stops, bus numbers, time tables and times of trael and duration. It even tells you if its better just to walk.

If it's the Christchurch Road Travelodge - either walk or get a taxi, will be about £5 a taxi. If its the West Hill Road Travelodge, be more than 1 bus so again a Taxi probably best bet £8-10

- Is there a bus from the Travelodge into Town? What number is it? How long does it take and how frequently does it run?

Christchurch Road - buses run past every 10 minutes (maybe even more frequent). To the centre of town it's 10 minutes, to the start of the pub/restaurant runs, it's probably quicker/cheaper to walk if weather ok 5-10 mins

West Hill Road - easier to walk or taxi, 5-10 mins walk into the town centre

- Is there anywhere you can recommend for a good Chinese or Indian that is fairly central?

Christchurch Road end of town - Eye Of The Tiger (Indian), Fountain (Chinese)

West Hill end of town - Ocean Palace (Chinese), Mint Leaf (Indian), Koh Thai (Thai)

- Are there any decent bars you can recommend were you can get a table and actually hear yourself speak without booming music?

Tables at a weekend will be a premium. Wetherspoons (Moon in the square) obviously has no music, Goat and Tricycle if you are at West Hill end. Otherwise most of the decent bars have music of some sort on, probably worth looking around and seeing which you fancy. Regardless of which Travelodge you are at you have a "pub crawl" almost by default that you can walk along on your way into town and decide which bars/pubs you like the look of, no more than a minute or two walk between each bar
