Of those listed and rated on TripAdvisor, Underleigh House, Hope Valley is arguably in the best place. Some of the reports are a bit gushing but one gives an email address so check it out. This is further to come by road but quite convenient for the rail line from Sheffield.

If you are driving you may wish to aim a bit further south, near Ashbourne. This will also avoid using the M1 north of J25 where it starts to get really busy.

I had a great stay at the Wind in The Willows, Glossop, bottom of the snake pass, is an excellant place. A splendid example of an early Victorian Country House.

We called into Cressbrook Hall when it was open for tea one day. Tea and bisuits were satisfactory, location is outstanding. From the terrace you can't see or hear any traffic and less than a dozen people on the hill opposite. They have self catering and also do B&B I think. They have a website.
