I don't know exact temperatures, but most people (especially the locals) would wear a "summer shortie" wetsuit even in the middle of summer ... the water around the coast of Cornwall is coming in straight off the Atlantic

Hi there

I was in the Par area last week and went for a swim off Par beach, believe me, it was freezing.

The best we can ever do is 17-18 C and even then we won't get this until late August. Bring your wetsuit and you'll have a great time although loads of people seems to tolerate it without one.

It will be bracing. The older you get the colder it seems

What you need on a boiling hot day is the lovely cool sea so that you don't get too hot! Let's hope you get some really good hot weather :-)

One always hesitates to disagree with Suzi, but even on the hottest day the air temp 20 yards from the water is enough to cool me down. I do not need 'lovely cool sea' for this !

Cornwall isn't the Mediterranean. It takes weeks of warm weather for the sea to warm up enough to swim comfortably without a wetsuit (although some hardy souls do it). June is, on the whole, a pretty chilly month so it's unlikely the sea will be warm in July.

we were down at Treyarnon bay at the weekend and us and a fair few others were in the sea without wetsuits - it was lovely! Bit chilly at first but after a few minutes you soon get used to it.
