From London Victoria Station to Southampton Cruise Ship Term

Could you advise the most economic and efficient ways of public transportation from the London Victoria Station to the Cruise Ship Terminal in Southampton? There are 3 of us and we will need to depart at around noon time on a late May Saturday.

Kindly advise how much it would cost and any suggestions to reduce it.

Thank you

Presumably you have already checked with the cruise company; and they are either not offering transfers, or you are rejecting it as too expensive.

Your choices are:

1) By train from London Waterloo to Southampton Central - this is the quickest route. If travelling from Victoria you can connect with some of these trains at Clapham Junction.

2) By train from London Victoria to Southampton Central - these trains are indirect and slower.

2) By National Express Coach from London Victoria Coach Station to Southampton Coach Station (in City Centre)

3) By Greyhound Coach from London Victoria, Bulleid Way, to Southampton, Town Quay.

With all of these choices you will probably need a taxi to get from the City Centre to the cruise terminal, these will be readily available.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Since we will be in London for a few days before taking the cruise, I should take your advise to also check if the cruise line would have a pick up from London.

Appreciate your advice.

If the cruise ship company does not provide transport, then the train from Waterloo may be the best option. Check train times and fares and book at www.southwesttrains.co.uk

Thanks again for the suggestion.

I notice from the website that it would cost a lot less for a rider who has a traincard. Do you know if the train company would sell traincards to foreigners?

Would have thought going via Clapham Junction would be the best option as then there's no need to go across London.

As a slight aside if doing this trip on a weekday then check the prices at Megabus which, despite the name, do offer extremely cheap tickets on some trains

The train company will sell Railcards to foreigners. However they cost £28.00 (for 1 year) which is a lot more than you will save on this journey.

Not sure if I interpret the info correctly. From the London Transportation Network Map, it seems from Victoria Station to Waterloo is easier (Take the Circle or District Line for one stop to Westminster and then change to the Jubilee Line for another stop to Waterloo) than going to Clapham Junction. The Network map does not show subway services to the Clapham Junction.

Would appreciate your advice.

Hello again, the services from London Victoria to Clapham Junction are operated by Southern, it isn't a 'subway' (Underground) link.

Trains run every few minutes and the journey takes about ten minutes. You will need to transfer to another platform (usually no. 9) at Clapham Junction; if you use the footbridge, there are lifts to all platforms which will save you having to use stairs.
