Well in Chatham the best breakfast place is Larry's PX on route 28. No matter what time of day, Larry's serves breakfast.

If you are in the Dennis area try Sesuit Harbor cafe and have a great breakfast outside as you watch the boats along the channel.

In Hyannis the best breakfast and conversation is at Colluci Brothers Diner.

All the Hearth and Kettle restaurants have good breakfasts.

For nicer dining, Chatham Bars Inn has an excellent breakfast, but reservations are required for those not staying at the Inn. Moonakis Cafe you'll get your fill of omlets stuffed with sausage, blueberry pancakes, french toast...you better plan not to have lunch after eating there. Comfort foods abounding.

My favorite breakfast with a view is to stop and pick up bagels and tea and bring them right to the beach.

If you're looking to go out for a big breakfast, you can't go wrong at the Celtic Kitchen on Rt. 28 in West Yarmouth. It would be a little ride for you but they serve breakfast late (maybe till 1:00 - not positive of time) but it would be a great stop if you were taking a ride toward Hyannis. Their cranberry pancakes or Portugese sweet bread french toast are just incredible. They also make a wonderful homemade corn beef hash.

Have a great vacation!

Would you consider visiting Harwichport, the next town west from Chatham? If so try Bonatts on Rt. 28 (south side of the st.) for breakfast. You can get fresh baked rolls (or buy a box from their take out) but you can also get one of their specials like cream cheese and fresh raspberry stuffed french toast with raspberry sauce. They also have plenty of egg dishes. You are on vacation so maybe you can venture beyond a roll and coffee at least one day. Also, consider going to Chatham Bars for High Tea or join into one of their dinner clambakes, actually a bargain at $66. pp.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, nothing beats Hearth and Kettle for breakfast. No suprises, nothing fancy - just good (full breakfast) food @ a very good price that is great, no matter which one you're in.

The Pancake Man in Yarmouth on rte 28, has some of the best pancakes (and combos) I have ever eaten- Maine to DC.

THINK OF THIS:

A better breakfast will preclude an expensive rip-off lunch. And a lot of lunches on the Island are just that - yet the fools continue to pay dinner prices (+) for frozen seafood served with vodka & cranberry. Gag me.

I would not suggest Bonatt's. The food is OK, normal bakery fare; but the service is horrible and the management is extremely rude.

I have never had a good experience at Bonatt's (Harwich, MA).

well it has been awhile since i wrote that question and we did enjoy most of our meals...i would have to say we were also disappointed in bonatt's in harwich...the service was poor and the baked goods were not fresh...perhaps we just went at a bad time...our favorite liitle hole in the wall was marion's pies in chatham....we are still talking about the berry pies as well as the chicken pot pie!!! yum..can't wait to return.

To all-

I'm very excited at the prospect of not paying anybody anything for breakfast in 2006. And I make great eggs, at al. (But my pancakes are poster pictures for gastro - abuse. I'll leave that to The Pancake Man).

IT'S CALLED RENTING A HOUSE instead of a hotel for the first time in 30 years. Positive cash flow while on vacation - what a novel idea.

Great under-discussed subject matter that begs for frequent re-examination because A.M. food places come & go so fast.
