Accommodations near Sandbanks

My husband and I are going to be taking our 4, 7 and 8 year old boys on a field trip from Montreal to Niagara falls. We were hoping to spend a few days exploring Sandbanks provincial park on the way. Unfortunately, we just had our vacation days confirmed a few days ago, and they are from July 3-13. We had wanted to camp, but of course, everything is already booked!

Can anyone suggest alternate accommodations? I suppose Picton, Belleville, or Trenton are the best alternatives? Hotels and inns are fine, but we are limited in available rooms, because we are a family of five.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Have you looked at the County website? In addition to listings for various types of accommodation they have an availability calendar which you can plug your dates, and other requirements into.

If you can't find anything in the county, we stay at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Belleville when we are in the area. We have only experienced good service and clean rooms there and they have rooms with 2 queen beds with 1 rollaway bed allowed.

It's about 30 to 45 minutes down to the beaches.

IMO if you're going to spend your days in Sandbanks Park, it's best to spend your nights in Wellington, Bloomfield or Picton rather than Trenton or Belleville, provided you can find something available on your dates. Of the three, Picton has the most options, but the others do have B&Bs/guest houses.

A couple of motels in/near Picton:

I've never stayed at the Sportsman Motel (http://www.pec.on.ca/sportsman/) but it does have rooms with multiple beds, kitchens etc.

There's also the Picton Harbour Inn, where I have stayed, but it is more expensive and AFAIK doesn't have as many room options.

Picton is a nice little town. The drive-in theatre (closer to Bloomfield than Picton) is a blast.

Thank you all for your replies. We've decided to do Sandbanks another year, when we have more advanced notice for planning.

If we can't get a camping reservation there, I've heard good things about the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Belleville. We will definitely be looking into this in the future.

Thanks again,

Sandbanks Beach Resort has the closest accommodations to the famous sandbanks!

Go to www.sandbanksbeachresort.com for pictures, directions, availability and rates. The off season rates are unbeatable!

They have cottages right on or near the water with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. They allow a maximum of four adults and four children in the biggest units but they also have a lot of smaller two bedroom units which are actually large luxurious trailers. These trailers are very clean and well equipped with a/c, four piece bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, sun decks, outside fire place, Barbeques, and picnic tables. Most have satellite flat screen TV with DVD players too. The best part is that you can walk directly into the Sandbanks

Provincial Park (DUNES BEACH) It's a 2 minute walk, it's free and it is the longest sandbar on freshwater in the world! If you go to their website, the first thing you'll see is this outstanding beach! It really is a great family place ... Very quiet, controlled (especially at night). They take pride in their grounds and the units are very clean, They do not put up with any noise or roudyness so if you like to party, don't go here"
